CALM + CAPABLE BABYSITTING TRAINING

A hands-on workshop that teaches more than babysitting.

Young babysitters don't just need to know what to do... they need the confidence to stay calm, think clearly, and respond when children need them most.

The Calm & Capable Babysitting Training is a unique 4-hour workshop for students ages 11+ that combines practical childcare skills, American Heart Association Family & Friends CPR training, and simple nervous system regulation techniques that help young caregivers remain steady under pressure while creating a sense of calm and safety for the children in their care.

Whether a child is frightened, frustrated, injured, or simply having a difficult moment, students leave with practical tools they can use with confidence.

Maximum class size: 10 students

What Makes This Training Different?

Many babysitting classes focus on information.

This workshop focuses on confidence.

Students learn how to:

• Stay calm during stressful situations

• Think clearly when quick decisions are needed

• Help children regulate big emotions

• Build trust and connection with the children they care for

• Respond with confidence during emergencies

This approach gives young babysitters practical skills they'll use long before an emergency ever happens.

Participants Learn:

Childcare Essentials

  • Feeding and bottle preparation

  • Diapering

  • Bedtime routines

  • Basic childcare responsibilities

  • Safe supervision

 

Child Development

  • Understanding different ages and stages

  • Age-appropriate expectations

  • Positive communication

  • Building healthy relationships with children

 

Safety & Emergency Preparedness

  • Home safety

  • Preventing common injuries

  • What to do when something goes wrong

  • Introductory first aid concepts

 

Infant & Child CPR

Students participate in the American Heart Association Family & Friends CPR Course, learning hands-on infant and child CPR skills.

 

Calm Under Pressure

One of the signature components of this workshop is learning how to regulate their own nervous system.

Students practice simple breathing and grounding techniques that help them:

  • Stay calm

  • Reduce panic

  • Think clearly

  • Help children feel safe

  • Respond confidently in challenging situations

About Your Instructor

Julie Diedrichsen, RN, BSN, HNB-BC, RYT-500

Julie is a registered nurse, board-certified holistic nurse, yoga teacher, and American Heart Association BLS Instructor. She is the founder of Sanctuary Yoga + Wellness Collective in West Bridgewater, Massachusetts.

With more than 25 years of experience as a school nurse, Julie has spent her career helping children, supporting families, and teaching others how to respond with confidence during emergencies.

Her teaching style is warm, practical, engaging, and hands-on, creating a supportive environment where every student feels comfortable learning.
